Over the years I’ve seen a shift from hiring a professional photographer and going to a photo shoot; to buying stock photos. And the same situation is happening with the movement away from hiring illustrators to buying stock illustrations.
Since stock images are cheaper and easy to purchase, I see stock images all around me. And there are a lot of bad examples out there. But stock images have gotten better and more professional looking since the days when I first started working at Deschenes Regnier. So why do I still see groups using bad images?
When you choose your next image ask yourself, does it look professional? Is it cliché? Have you seen it before? Can you customize the image?
In short, be careful when choosing your next stock image. The wrong image can make a bad first impression and hurt your company or your product going forward.
